Winter Solstice 2013
Happy Winter Solstice! This year marks 14 years of creating artwork which celebrates the holiday season. The subject for this year’s offering was inevitable. Maybe the planets were aligned just right or maybe there was too much Jethro Tull (I recommend listening to the album “Songs from the Wood”). Whatever the case, the bells will ring on the Winter Solstice.
It was believed the ringing of bells on the Winter Solstice would ward off the evil spirits which lurked in the dark of winter. Ringing of bells was also believed to bring clarity and to dispel negative energy. Yet another belief involved bringing a live evergreen tree into the home during the winter months so the wood spirits would have a place to keep warm. Bells were hung in the branches so you could tell when an appreciative spirit was present.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Winter Solstice and a happy holiday season. Please enjoy the artwork and, as always, I look forward to hearing everyone’s feedback.
