Winter Solstice 2025
Happy Winter Solstice! This year marks the 26th edition of artwork celebrating the spirit of the Winter Solstice (technically, the 2000 edition was a generic holiday greeting with Winter Solstice overtones, so it still does not really count). 2025 has been another unique year. Depending where on the globe you are located will shape how you experienced the past year. An uneasiness and darkness have cast a pall around much of the globe making the light harder to find. Even in the deepest dark there is always a spark of light waiting for the right moment to dispel the shadows. The question is, how does one find this light as well as determine when it will return to dispel the darkness? Often, people will turn to mysticism in an attempt to divine what the future holds. This leads us into this year’s Winter Solstice theme of the tarot. The tarot card most closely associated with the Winter Solstice is the Hermit, the ninth trump out of twenty-two cards of the Major Arcana.
Standing in solitude on a snowy cliff, staff in hand to help navigate the narrow path to enlightenment, the Hermit holds aloft a lantern as a guide, showing others how to find their inner light. Symbolizing inner wisdom, spiritual guidance, and truth, the lantern houses a six-pointed star representing the Seal of Solomon. Remaining in the heights throughout the long nights of spiritual darkness, the Hermit is ready to help everyone who cries for the light.
